The starting point may be an interview, to which I've added other references and sources, but it is often still the individual voice that carries the narrative and occupies the space – the fictional space as well as the literal space – of the work. The point is that this voice, which seems singular, is in fact composite, fractured and unstable. The Unnameable by Samuel Beckett is that unstable voice pushed to the absolute extreme ... I was attracted by the extremity of that experience: a sense of self that is absolutely uncertain, and is pushed to the limit.'

Following on from the very critical success of their Elephant Man Tours historical walking tours project, artists Rich Wilson and Adam Latham have turned their back on tourism and turned their busy minds to the business of opening a DEPARTMENT STORE.

For ten days visitors and customers alike will be able to peruse over three floors of a mid-renovation Georgian townhouse full to brimming with luxury, semi-luxury and affordable consumer items.  From squirrel flippers to umbrella trees, sock scarves to shell spoons; everything, as they say, is under one roof. 

On the top floor they launch their dazzling new clothing label 'Trendy Boy.com', a collection that has already inspired one Japanese fashion expert to buy everything they had on their stall.  On the first floor there's Homeware, and on the ground floor a well-stocked gift shop with all the toys, gadgets, musical instruments and tropical paraphernalia that fans of their online shop have come to view as essential to a happy life in the modern world.

GUTBUSTERS

22nd & 23rd July, 12-9pm.

As if that wasn't all just about enough, on Friday and Saturday the following week a two-day performance takes place in the disused shop at the front bottom of the building.  The performance is called GUTBUSTERS, the empty shop will be transformed into a beautiful rustic looking working café, serving delicious, often inedible delicacies that will make your eyes water and your mouth cry with joy.

Staffed by an as yet unconfirmed rota of laconic, gauche and pugnacious indie bands (TBA), tired shoppers can treat themselves to a whole gastroparesis of poetically confused dishes.

Akerman Daly would like to announce their inaugural writer in residence for 2011, Patrick Coyle.

The residencies are virtual desks for a time-limited period hosted on the website www.akermandaly.com. The residencies offer artists a space on the site to publish new writing. The purpose is to offer an easily accessible outlet for current art writing that has not yet been published elsewhere.

Patrick Coyle (b. Hull 1983) is a London-based artist and writer. He studied MFA Art Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London (2008-2010) and BA Fine Art at Byam Shaw, University of the Arts London (2002-2005). Recent exhibitions include up, Jerwood Project Space, London (2010); The Bottom Line, Tenderpixel Gallery, London (2011) and Bloomberg New Contemporaries, A Foundation, Liverpool and ICA, London (2010-2011). Coyle has recently delivered performances at The Poetry Café, London; Flat Time House, London; and Arnolfini, Bristol. Recent publications include Art Licks Magazine, ment journal, and the ICA's Roland Magazine.

Franko B I Still Love   The Nunnery | 6th May – 5th June 2011           An exhibition of recent visual art work by Franko B. Private View: Thursday 5th May 2011, 6.30pm – 9pm   I Still Love is Franko B's first solo exhibition in London for seven years and features a new series of embroidered canvases, never before shown in the UK.     The canvases, which depict animals, flowers, portraits and the male body, as well as images of torture and war, return to the central themes of Franko B's work – death, eroticism, intimacy, pain and compassion. These recurrent motifs find a delicate new means of expression through the exclusive use of red cotton on unprimed canvas. A bold, eclectic artist, and for many years a leading figure on the international performance art scene, Franko B continues to celebrate and express the beauty of existence in his work, focusing on powerful and emotive imagery. I Still Love follows on from the artist's recent solo exhibition at PAC (Pavilion of Contemporary Art) in Milan.   Artist's Talk: Sunday 8th May, 2-3.30pm Franko B will be in conversation with writer and curator, Michele Robecchi. Discussion will focus on the conception and realisation of the exhibition 'I Still Love'. The conversation will then be opened out into a group Q & A.  British poets read and respond to the work and life of Allen Ginsberg

A unique evening of poetry celebrating the release of the motion picture "Howl" at the Poetry Café. A indelible influence on poets across the globe, this evening will be a chance to see how the poetry of Ginsberg has permeated into the consciousness of generations of poets coming to prominence after his death. The night will see readings directly from the text of Ginsberg as well as original works written for the occasion.
